Project #2: Milly's 0.5 caliber to level 1 rocket project.

Hello fellow rocket friends, ever want to have one rocket do it all? Thats the driving idea behind the 0.5Caliber. Actually the 0.5Caliber is only the booster section for many other rockets I am planning to build.

What do I mean by booster section? Well I have created a rocket which will have interchangible payload sections. Each section will have a spicific job assigned with it, photography (Silver Eyes), Amateur Radio Repeater (Arcturus 2), Telemetry and GPS (MojoPin), etc. The idea here is to be able to change out a flight package quickly and still acomplish the main task of launch and recovery. As the rocket I build continues to evolve many more sections and construction techniques will be employed. The main booster section (0.5Caliber) will be test flown with a G single use engine from Aerotech on the March 24th launch at Nemo Range. If successful flight is recorded an empty payload section (Rocket Technologies) will be fitted and the rocket will be launched again atop a G motor.

The April launch at Nemo Range will see the 0.5 booster section take a full size payload section [30 inches in length] (Arcturus 2) up hopefully at least 500 feet with the aid of an I reloadable engine. This will be my level 1 certification flight and will have a amateur radio repeater as payload (Freq. 445.6 MHz Simplex Repeater Callsign KC0CRU). Below are a few shots of the 0.5 Caliber with a mockup of the Arcturus 2 payload section.

Arcturus 2 section is shown on the left of the main booster. This will sport a Mercury Redstone-ish paint job for high visibility in the field so I don't loose it.

Below is the tube art.

Arcturus #1 is just the mockup, Arcturus 2 will be the real thing.

The full rocket will stand a little over 7 feet high, be 3 inchs in diameter and fly with a I reload engine. I've already planned what I will create as my Level 2 rocket, this design will be placed on my project 3 webpage. I will have flight photos later next week after my G powered flights.
