0.5 Caliber Test Flight with G motor.

In a nutshell, the flight was successful beyond belief. I was really scared when the countdown hit 1 and I had to push the button. The flight was a little odd in that the motor I wanted to use had too long a delay for the weight and the wind we did not want the rocket to arch over before the delay fired so we reduced the delay time from 7 seconds to 3 seconds and this worked perfectly. Estimation places the altitude at about 1500 feet and the great news is that everything stayed together in one piece. Had this been my level 1 certification I would of successfully demonstrated my ability to build a high power rocket. Also what would of happened is that the rocket on an I would never have come down in running range, we might have to drive to Thompson to retreve it. The winds were just too high for anything higher power. Below are some photos of the flight and there will be a video from the NDRA site.

The talk now is securing my rocket for its big launch, I need to increase the shock cord by many feet, the short length I had caused teh nose cone to bounce back and hit my tube. The only other damage was that the end tip of my fin was banged up from the landing and the paint job needed to be touched up. As well as the shock cord mount inside the tube needs to be changed out and reinforced better. For the flight in April I will launch the 0.5 cal with payload section on an I motor. I guess Paul Seifert is angry with me trying for my certification early on in my rocket career, all I can say to that is quit being whinny and go straight to level 2 in April don't waste time at level 1, get that up and out of the way in the morning and launch a J in the afternoon. :) Here are the pictures of my test flight for the 0.5 caliber.

Oh I should mention now that talk is being made at challenging Paul to a dragrace for our level 1 certification flight next month, this would be to our knowelege the first time ever that level 1 certification was acheved in a competition style. What do you think Paul, you up to the challenge of racing me and my 0.5 caliber whistleing rocket??
